More than Dollars, It’s About Direction
Hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, will touch our children’s bank accounts in their lifetime, but few are ever taught more than the principles of spending, saving, and giving. We’re changing that. By planting seeds of finance, faith, and freedom from the start, we’re helping to raise up a generation who is confident in their understanding of money and how it fits into God’s unique purpose for their lives.
Playful and Purposeful Seed-Planting
Simple, engaging, and fun.
We design lessons kids want to do. Each lesson is written in an approachable way with games and stories, so that learning feels effortless and fun.

Teach young. Transform generations.
Money habits and wisdom take root early. By teaching kids today, we empower the capable adults and families they’ll become, recognizing they’re often more ready to learn than we might think.
We learn better together.
All lesson content is designed to spark meaningful conversations between kids and grown-ups. Families grow closer as they learn side by side.

Living Wisely, Loving Deeply
We believe our values shape a healthy perspective on money for families. We believe kids are more capable than we often realize, ready to learn how to use money as a tool to accomplish God’s unique purpose in their lives. The Rest Over Riches Money Explorers financial literacy course for kids teaches values that inspire a life of meaning over materialism.
It helps us meet needs and bless others, but it was never meant to be the goal. We teach kids to hold money loosely and use it wisely.
Money should support our calling, not our ego. True success is found in how we live and give, not what we accumulate.
We don’t trade away our hours for things that don’t matter. Every moment is a gift that deserves to be spent with purpose.
Used thoughtfully, debt can be a tool—not something to fear or shame others for. We teach the difference between wise leverage and harmful debt.
Earning money is good, but becoming dependable, creative, and resilient is even better. We teach that working well is part of living well.
Scripture is full of guidance on how to handle money with integrity. We anchor our lessons in truths that have stood the test of time.
No one gets it perfect, especially when learning something new. We encourage grace, reflection, and learning after every misstep.
When families talk honestly about money, trust and teamwork grow. We provide language and tools to make those conversations easier.
We don’t need to chase every shiny thing. Living with less can actually mean living with more joy and peace.
When we aren’t weighed down by stuff, we’re free to live open-handed lives. Simplicity makes room for deeper love, connection, and meaning.
Our Story
We’re a family of six with a vision for living lives that prioritize relationship building and connectedness. Our vision for a life of purpose influences how we manage money, raise our children, and share with others.

Hi, I’m Joel
Founder of Rest Over Riches, husband, homeschool dad to four, and follower of Jesus. I’m honored that you’re considering this curriculum for your family, and I’d love to share how my own journey through faith, family, and finances, led to the creation of Rest Over Riches.
I grew up in a Christian home with responsible, financially conservative parents who valued steady work, saving diligently, and planning for retirement the traditional way. After graduating from UT Austin with a degree in Design, I spent years freelancing and later joined a startup. I followed the “right” financial steps of saving, investing in retirement, and even buying our first rental property. By my mid-30s, I was burning out, trading my best hours and energy for a necessary paycheck and missing quality time with the people I loved most.
At 36, I prayed for a different path: one where I could somehow be more present with my family. Over the next 4 years, God opened doors I never expected. Through intentional investing, a focus on return over convention, and lots of learning, we went from a negative net worth to a number that gave us the freedom to reclaim what mattered most: time together.
The desire to have quality time with my family, the only family in this life that God has entrusted me with, drove me to question retirement culture, rethink risk, and start treating our family’s finances like a business with Biblical values at the core. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all money plans. I believe God gives each family a unique purpose, and that money should serve that purpose, not replace it.
Rest Over Riches is more than a financial literacy curriculum. It’s a calling to help kids and families live simply and manage money in a way that serves God, not the world. It’s a calling to run God’s race, not the world’s. The world’s race leads to exhaustion. God’s leads to rest.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
—Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
